Well, it is an external that I use for maintenance when doing repairs and improvements to the BBS. What does it do? Well, it allows you to display the standard welcome screen in the Hermes and then says the BBS is down and hangs up and resets the current node. This way, you don't have to take the BBS totally down to your users and have them constantly calling.
Reasons for using this are simple. It saves time and hassles for you and your users. Right now, it is an external that is active ALL the time, so don't use it if you don't want your board to hangup on your users.
What do you get from "BBS Down!"?
1) Records that a user has been logged off.
2) Allows the standard welcome screen for Hermes to be displayed for purpose of
diplaying the reason why the board is down.
3) Allows those nodes that are marked Sysop nodes to be utilized by outside
callers.
4) Allows to turn ON/OFF by the User External for those with a SL = 255.
Features not yet coded…
1) Hopefully, the ability to allow email to the Sysop.
2) The ability for an override password.
Coming soon...
1) Hermes Additions (still in beta and needing testers)
2) Hermes Beeper
3) InfoAdditions
4) Shareware Monitor

For more information, contact me on the Hermes Support board as User #301, Charles Amet. This is my uncle, but he will relay the message to me.
Note, I do not guarantee that this software is bug free. Use this external at your own risk. My only hope is that it is useful to you.
If you have suggestions and or ideas for this or another external, please let me know. I can program; however, coming up with ideas is another story. Most of my ideas and/or suggestions are being placed into Hermes II v2.0.
Here are some suggestions that I have…
1) Mail by classification
2) Mail by restriction
3) Sysop Hours which can be set for individual days of the week along with individual
time slots.
Thanks to Keith and Karl Klein, Charles Amet, Michael Isreali, Michael Cappriotti, Lloyd Woodall, Robert Rebbun, and Sam Shafritz. Excuse any names being mispelled, just email me if they are. Thanks again!

If you use this more than 5 days, then you are obligated to send in the SHAREWARE fee. I would appreciate it if you did since I am a college student in graduate school trying to get my masters degree. Right at the moment, I am broke and my refrigerator is looking quite bare from those late night programming sessions. So, send what you can.
